'Babies Stressed Out By Buggies'

Children made to face away from their carers are more likely to end up anxious adults, the first ever study on the effects of buggies has revealed.Babies pushed in buggies facing away from their parents could suffer lasting psychological damage, scientists claim.

The away-facing babies in the research were "emotionally impoverished", laughed less, talked less and suffered more stress than those facing their parent...........

Was your baby a maternity unit miracle?

Baby Lifeline has launched the second ever UK MUM (Maternity Unit Miracles) Awards, calling on mums and dads to nominate the medical staff who helped to save their little bundles of joy. The charity wants to uncover the real-life stories of MUMs from across the country. Baby Lifeline wants to champion the work of dedicated professionals committed to helping those who don't always get the best start in life.
If you had a midwife who went that extra mile, a surgeon whose skill saved a life, a nurse who nurtured a struggling little one, or a whole team effort, we want to hear about it and help mums and dads out there show how much they appreciate the great work of these healthcare professionals Parents who wish to nominate their unsung heroes should log on to www.babylifeline.org.uk for a nomination form.

Better Food in Nurseries? Yes please!

Better Food in Nurseries? Yes please! You may have seen a report recently highlighting that many nurseries provide nutritionally poor food for their kids; with a shocking few spending as little as 25p per meal per child. As over 600,000 kids attend nurseries in the UK, Organix thought they’d find out a bit more and have ended up signing a petition calling upon the Government to put in place guidelines which ensure there are clear nutritional standards covering our children’s nurseries, just like there are now in schools. show your support by adding your name - go to www.nurseryfood.org and take a look.

BBC Breakfast helps us out......

Being bored 'fires children's imaginations'
fun with a sprinkler

It's the familiar summer holidays cry: "Mummy, I'm bored."

Research suggests the best answer might be: "Good."

A survey of 293 parents in the UK suggests that a majority - 70% - feel it is important for school holiday time to be filled with planned activities, and 45% worry that they do not do enough.

But research commissioned by the Lego Learning Institute suggests that it is good for children to be "bored" - because they have to start using their own imaginations.
